Speaker: Rita Sambruna Title: Astrophysics at NASA’s GSFC: what we do and how you can get involved. Abstract: Astrophysics at NASA’s GSFC: what we do and how you can get involved. I present the activities and capabilities of the Astrophysics Science Division (ASD) at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center, of which I am Deputy Director. I will especially focus on recently launched and operating missions – JWST, XRISM, BurstCube – and present the highlights of their science results. A look to future missions is also provided. After a review of our science capabilities (the HEASARC archive and the newly started ACROSS Center of Excellence), I will describe partnership opportunities, with special emphasis on programs for students and other early career scientists. Hosted within the Science Exploration Directorate at Goddard, ASD is the largest astrophysics organization in the world, home of 300+ scientists and engineers. Bio: A native of Italy, Dr. Rita Sambruna is one of the foremost experts and world leaders in the extragalactic astronomy field of Active Galactic Nuclei. In particular, she has done seminal work on the formation and radiative properties of extragalactic jets using multiwavelength observations collected from space and ground. Currently the Deputy Director of the Astrophysics Science Division at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center, Rita was recognized nationally and internationally with a Fellowship of the AAS, APS, and AAAS, and an Honorary Fellowship of the RAS. She was awarded a NASA’s Exceptional Achievement medal and a NASA Honor Award for her leadership.
