Description
Speaker: Dr. Kimberly Palladino (Physics, Oxford University, UK)

Title: SensationaLZ: Direct Dark Matter Searches in the Era of LZ

Abstract: The LUX-ZEPLIN (LZ) detector will begin its science run this year. The search for WIMPs and other dark matter candidates with this liquid xenon time projection chamber will be put in the broader context of other direct dark matter searches. The efforts of the LZ collaboration to ensure the achievement of our sensitivity goals will be discussed. After surveying the sensitivity reach of LZ, I'll discuss what the future for direct dark matter searches may include.

About the speaker: PhD on the ANITA neutrino-astronomy experiment at the Ohio State University, postdoc on the Mini-CLEAN liquid argon dark matter detector at MIT and research scientist at SNOLAB, then scientist at SLAC on LUX and LZ, before becoming a faculty member at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and then at the University of Oxford. My hardware interests are in high voltage operation in TPCS, and system integration (from gas systems to cabling)- while from an analysis perspective I am interested in data quality and dataset curation, and effective field theory direct detection searches which expand the search window to slightly higher energy recoils.
