Description |
Speaker: Dr. Thomas Maccarone and Dr. Benjamin Owen Title: The latest Nobel Prize in Physics: Black holes Abstract: This will be a talk that hopefully establishes a new tradition in TTU physics of having faculty review the most recent Nobel Prize for the rest of the department. This year's Nobel Prize went half to Roger Penrose for "the discovery that black hole formation is a robust prediction of the general theory of relativity", and half to Andrea Ghez and Reinhard Genzel for "for the discovery of a supermassive compact object at the centre of our galaxy." Prof. Owen will review the former and Prof. Maccarone will review the latter. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Join Zoom Meeting by clicking the link in the material below or https://zoom.us/j/9952917599?pwd=MHdiOFRIRG1kVFJ2a1JjVXczVEVnUT09 Meeting ID: 995 291 7599 Passcode: PHAS ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Please also visit Department Colloquia webpage.
