Sigma Pi Sigma, GRASP, and SPS are hosting the 3rd Annual Department of Physics and Astronomy Poster Competition! It will be held on Friday, October 18th from 10:00 am - 1:00 pm. This year, we will have three separate divisions: Ph.D. Students, MS Students, and Undergraduate Students, assuming there are enough participants in each division. The department has graciously agreed to cover the cost of poster printing for all participants and has also agreed to provide cash prizes for students who place in each division. While the participation of all students involved in research is strongly encouraged, this is especially a good opportunity for anyone planning to present a poster at the Texas APS meeting (October 25-26). This competition offers participants the opportunity to practice poster presentation and receive feedback to improve poster design before going to the conference.
The deadline for abstract submission will be Sunday, October 6th at 11:59 pm and the deadline for poster submission a week later, Sunday, October 13th at 11:59 pm. Posters should be 36"x 48" and university-approved templates along with some poster making tips are available from the Teaching, Learning, & Professional Development Center, Graduate School, and the Print Bureau.
Once posters have been submitted to Indico, they will be printed out for you and hung in room Science 106/108 on the day of the competition. Participants are expected to be available to present their poster to audience members and judges for the full 3 hours. However, we understand that this time will inevitably conflict with some participants' schedules; if this is the case, please let us know and we'll try our best to arrange a subset of this period where you'll be able to present to judges.
Judging of the posters will be based on a rubric, an example can be found here. Each poster will be judged by several people and graded rubrics will be used to identify the top posters within each division.
If you have already submitted an abstract and it has been accepted, you can upload your poster by following the "My contributions" link on the main agenda page, from there if you click on "view" followed by "Add Material", you should be able to upload a PDF to indico.
